Strawberry Lovebugs

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dark chocolate baking chips, we used the Enjoy Life brand dark chocolate morsels, only two ingredients
  • 12 strawberries, organic if possible
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips, we used the 365 brand

Instructions

  • Remove the strawberry stems from the desired number of strawberries (make sure the berries are well-dried).
  • Melt dark chocolate in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring every 30 seconds until just melted.
  • Dip the pointed ends of the berries into the melted chocolate and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Using a reusable piping bagĀ fitted with the smallest tip (or you can use a Ziploc bag with the corner cut for a tip), place the remaining melted chocolate in the bag and seal shut. Pipe a small stripe down the center of the strawberry and dots on either side to mimic the patterns of a ladybug.
  • Use the remaining chocolate to pipe antennae shapes next to the strawberries on the parchment paper.
  • Place the baking sheet with chocolate shapes in the refrigerator until the chocolate has cooled and hardened.
  • Melt the white chocolate, place it in a piping bag, and pipe dots onto the chocolate-covered portion of the strawberry to create the eyes.
  • With the last of the dark chocolate, make the pupil of the eye by adding a center dot in each of the white chocolate eyes and refrigerate again for 5 minutes.
  • Pipe a small dot of chocolate on each side of the center line and gently attach the antennae. This works best when adding the antennae onto cold strawberries so that the chocolate can set and harden quickly.
