Let's be honest, can anyone ever have enough garlic bread in their life?!
It’s officially Community Week here on Women of Today, and thanks to community member @roc_ethical, we took a classic recipe and added a new WOT Test Kitchen twist, literally.
This recipe is sure to delight your family and friends and the good news is, it looks way more complicated than it is. This will look great on your family dinner table or give it a try for the holidays.
What we love about this recipe is every piece has just the right amount of crunch and flavor! As always, you can adjust the recipe to your taste and make it your own.
Garlic Bread with a New Twist, Literally
Equipment
- One toothpick
Ingredients
- 1/2 loaf of Italian bread (we used one with sesame seeds)
- 1/2 bulb roasted garlic, removed from the peel (see below for roasting directions)
- 1/4 cup olive oil (or you can use room temperature butter)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tbsp. chopped fresh basil
- 1 tsp. chopped fresh thyme
- 1 tsp. chopped fresh rosemary
- 1/4 cup Pecorino Romano cheese grated
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Using a serrated knife, slice off the pointed end of the bread loaf. Then carefully begin slicing the bread, but not all the way through. You want to leave the bottom intact so it will hold together when you go to make a circle. When finished slicing, stand the bread on its side and connect the two ends by inserting a toothpick diagonally.
- Gently place the sliced and formed loaf on a baking sheet pan.
- Using the back of a fork, mash the ½ bulb of peeled roasted garlic in a small mixing bowl, add the olive oil, chopped parsley, chopped basil, chopped thyme, and chopped rosemary. Using a small pastry brush, brush the top of the circular loaf with some of the olive oil herb mixture. Then delicately brush one side of each piece of bread from top to bottom. Any extra olive oil herb mixture can be added to the top of the loaf.
- Sprinkle the top of the loaf with the grated cheese and bake in a 400-degree oven for approximately 10 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and serve. This bread holds its shape after baking and each delicious crunchy piece can be broken off easily with a knife or pulled.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Slice approximately ¼” off the top of the garlic bulb. Place in an oven-safe ramekin and drizzle with olive oil.
- Roast in the oven for 20-30 minutes until the flesh of the garlic is golden and soft. You can test it with a toothpick to make sure you don’t feel any resistance when inserted.
- Remove from oven and let cool. When cool to the touch, peel each clove of garlic from the peel and set aside. Can be stored in the refrigerator for one week.
Enjoy!
