Self-Love Bowl Recipe

Discover the story
Who doesn’t just love sitting down with a giant bowl of food?!

Today we welcome back Kimberly Snyder to WOT. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we are sharing with you her Self-Love Bowl Recipe. Kimberly is a New York Times best selling author, nutritionist, renowned speaker, personal development expert, meditation teacher, certified yoga instructor and holistic wellness expert. Enjoy this healthy and delicious recipe!

I don’t like portion sizing and definitely don’t believe in eating programs where you have to eat tiny portions of food. Honestly, I’ve tried them in times past and I get really hangry! Food to me should be a celebration of nourishment, not an area of our lives centered around restriction and shame.

Instead, let’s fill up on large portion sizes of nutrient-dense foods that are super nourishing and easy to digest! It makes us feel satisfied, grounded, beautiful, radiant, powerful. That is why I’ve created my Self-Love Bowl Recipe with plant-based goodness, hearty quinoa, and a delicious avocado based sauce- you’ll never have to worry about tiny portion sizes ever again when you start eating this way :).

I really think you’re going to love this recipe!

Let’s Talk Self-Love

Deep down, we all worry on some level that we aren’t good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, or worthy of love just as we are. Or may feel we have to paint a certain picture because people wouldn’t like us if they saw how we really are.

This creates anxiety, loads of stress, and blocks self-acceptance. It dampens our energy and true beauty, because we vibrate out doubt and conflict.

It’s a journey to get to true self-acceptance and self-love, and one that start with the awareness that this self-doubt even exists in the first place. Can we love ourselves just as we are, in progress, flawed, yet still shining true as a unique being?

The more we tune into our body and feel connected to ourselves, the more we love ourselves as well. Making food lovingly for ourselves is a supreme form of self-care. So is moving our bodies the way that feels good, ie exercise, while also making time for your regular spiritual practice (a time to honor the sacred connection between body, mind and spirit).

In The Beauty Detox Power I share the value in spending time in connecting with yourself. Going through this process can make it easier to be in tune with everything from nourishing yourself with the foods your body truly needs, gaining more control over chronic food cravings, and feeling more peaceful in general.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find
all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” —Rumi

Our essence is love, we already have all that we need, and we are already whole and complete. The goal is just to realize that and awaken to this truth, not to “fill in” all this seemingly missing stuff, which we’re not really missing.

With today’s new recipe being called the Self-Love Bowl, it makes sense that we are in tune with the food choices we make, so that it will have lasting beneficial results to our entire well-being. This isn’t just about eating good occasionally, but really, making The Beauty Detox Solution a lifestyle that you can implement into your daily lives- forever (one step at a time).

When you make healthy food choices, you are in essence saying, that you really love yourself and that you are committed to caring for yourself.

It’s not about depriving your body but filling it up with nutrient-rich foods that will not only keep your hunger at bay, but will keep you content, full of life, love, and energy. This is because your body won’t be burdened in trying to break down, assimilate, and digest poor food choices.

This is what I always have in mind when I create new recipes for us. I really do believe that foods can heal and are responsible for providing us with the fuel we need to take care of the rest of our well-being.

Today’s bowl is packed with so much goodness that you won’t be able to help yourself. You will feel connected to the Earth and the love it shows to us through all these amazingly beautifying plant-based foods- loving yourself more in the process!

So take your time to connect to yourself, accepting the uniqueness and natural beauty that you already are and always will be.

Self Love Bowl

Servings 4 small portions

Ingredients

  • 1 cup uncooked tricolor quinoa
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 small sweet potatoes sliced in half long ways
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 4 handfuls of arugula
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 head of broccoli
  • 2 large carrots peeled
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • sea salt, to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper
Sauce:
  • 1 avocado
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped cilantro
  • sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (204 C) Dice the sweet potatoes, spread with coconut oil and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes.
  • While the sweet potatoes are cooking, add one cup of tricolor quinoa to 2 cups of water, cook until done. If quinoa is still crunchy when water has evaporated, add ¼ cup more water until quinoa is fluffy.
  • Add broccoli, chopped carrots, bell pepper and onions to pan with sweet potatoes for another 15 minutes, then remove all from oven.
  • Prepare sauce by blending avocado, lemon juice, chopped cilantro, and water to a mixing bowl or blender. Add warm water until consistency is to your liking. Adding salt and pepper to taste.
  • Combine arugula, sweet potatoes, and veggies to bowl and drizzle dressing on top. Enjoy!
