BBQ Turkey Sliders
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp butter, divided
- 4 large garlic cloves, minced, divided
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes divided or cayenne
- 1 package of attached dinner rolls (12 rolls)
- ¼ cup olive oil, divided
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 lb ground turkey
- Kosher salt
- Black pepper
- ¾ cup BBQ sauce, divided
- 1½ cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 tbsp parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Use a nonstick baking sheet or a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Using a serrated knife, slice the entire pack of rolls in half horizontally, leaving them attached. Arrange the top and bottom halves with the cut sides facing up on the baking sheet. Set aside.
- Melt the butter with 2 tablespoons olive oil and 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over low heat. Stir in half the minced garlic and the red pepper flakes or cayenne. Remove from heat.
- Brush the cut sides with the melted butter mixture, and toast in the preheated oven until light golden brown, about 5 minutes. Set aside; leave the oven on.
- Heat the remaining olive oil in the skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and remaining minced garlic. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent. Add the turkey and season with the kosher salt and black pepper.
- Brown and cook the meat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon until it is no longer pink, for 5 to 6 minutes.
- Make a space in the middle of the pan and add 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce. If the mixture looks dry, add ¼ cup of water and cook until moist. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Spoon the turkey mixture over the bottom half of the rolls. Press the meat down as needed to keep the shape.
- Sprinkle the turkey with the shredded mozzarella.
- On the cut side of the roll tops, brush with the remaining BBQ sauce, then flip over onto the sliders.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter and sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of parmesan.
- Bake for about 8 minutes until the cheese is melted and the rolls are crisp and lightly browned on top
- Be sure not to over-brown the top of the sliders.
- Serve immediately, or cool, refrigerate, and reheat in a 350-degree oven for about 15 minutes or until hot in the center.
