Tips For A Great Smokey Eye + Easy Beach Waves

Discover the story
If you're like us, then you have gone a good year without really playing with your makeup!

Okay so let’s have a little fun again, right?! Even if you aren’t going to a big party, it can feel really good to do your makeup again!

You guys know I’ve spent a little time having my hair and makeup done ; ) and I wanted to share with you some tips on how to get a smoky eye and wavy hair that you can use for a glam night out (or in!). My make-up artist Kelsey James, does a great smokey eye that you could try the next time you are going out.

Have a look at my steps below. The instructions are pretty simple and you can definitely do it yourself. I also walk you through how to create a super simple beach wave hairstyle.

For more great hair tips, check out Our Director of Style Adir Abergel showing us how to create undone waves yourself at home.

For a smokey eye:

Apply a primer from lash line to brow. Try Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Primer Potion

Use a neutral taupe eyeshadow in the socket of your eye. I like to use a smokey eye kit like this LORAC PRO Matte Eye Shadow PaletteThe fluffier the brush, the better.

Take a kohl pencil (I like COVERGIRL Perfect Blend Eyeliner Pencil), and sketch in where you want the darker area to be. Blend.

Apply a corresponding dark shadow over the kohl pencil.

Blend. For a great blending brush, try e.l.f. Fluffy Eye Blender Brush

Use a metallic cream eyeshadow (like Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow, Skinlights) on the inner corner and the eyelid.

Place a black liner on the inner rim of your eye.

Softly smudge the pencil and shadow on the lower lash line.

Apply false lashes and mascara.
Viola!

For beach waves:

Medium size curling iron suggested — Try BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Spring Curling Iron

Use curling iron to flaten out the roots

Wrap 1 inch pieces of hair around curling iron

Count to ten

Pull curl out

Stretch the hair

Shake each curl with your hand up a bit and you have the beach wave

Use smaller hair straightening iron for the small pieces near your face (like this Mini Hair Straightener Travel Size)

Get really small sections of your hair in the front

Get close to root and turn while you do it

This gives you more volume

Don’t wrap the last piece of your hair

This gives it a more natural look

Spray hair spray around your hair

**For a more intense volume flip your hair over and spray with hair spray and flip back up

Enjoy!
