Just in time for Valentine’s Day we have an adorable + sweet little snack that your little ones will love! These Strawberry Lovebugs are a fun way to celebrate the day and a much healthier option than all the extra candy (and refined sugar)! Try sneaking them on to your kids’ breakfast plate or hide them around the house for a little surprise throughout the day. They are also a really fun activity to do with your kids in the kitchen.
Strawberry Lovebugs
Ingredients
- 2 cups Dark Chocolate Baking Chips (we used Enjoy Life brand dark chocolate morsels, only two ingredients)
- 12 Strawberries (Organic when possible)
- 1/4 cup White Chocolate Chips (We used 365 brand)
Instructions
- Remove strawberry stems from the desired number of strawberries (make sure berries are well dried)
- Melt dark chocolate in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring every 30 seconds until just melted
- Dip pointed ends of berries into melted chocolate and place on parchment-lined baking sheet
- Using a reusable piping bag fitted with the smallest tip (or you can reuse a Ziploc bag with the corner cut for a tip), place remaining melted chocolate in the bag and seal shut. Pipe a small stripe down the center of the strawberry and dots on either side to mimic the patterns of a ladybug
- Use the remaining chocolate to pipe antennae shapes next to the strawberries on the parchment paper
- Place the baking sheet with chocolate shapes in the refrigerator until the chocolate has cooled and hardened
- Melt the white chocolate and place in a piping bag and pipe dots onto the chocolate-covered portion of the strawberry to create the eyes
- With the last of the dark chocolate make the pupil of the eye by adding a center dot in each of the white chocolate eyes and refrigerate again for 5 mins
- Pipe a small dot of chocolate on each side of the center line and gently attach the antennae. This works best when adding the antennae onto cold strawberries so that the chocolate can set and harden quickly
Enjoy!
