Winter Immune Booster Tea (That’s Kid Friendly!)

Discover the story

This time of the year, kids always seem to be fighting some kind of cold — It’s constant, and usually unavoidable. Growing up in Brazil, whenever I got sick, my Mom would make this tea for me, and it always made me feel better. Eventually she started making it to help prevent me from getting sick. Now I have carried on the tradition, and I make it for my children this time of year, whether they are sick or not.

The tea only has five ingredients, and three of them help ward off cold and flu viruses. First, the tea has ginger in it which is an anti-inflammatory and helps to soothe a sore throat. Second, it has turmeric which is a powerful antioxidant, and helps strengthen the immune system. Finally, the lemon used in the recipe is reported to decrease the strength of the cold and flu virus in the body and reduce phlegm.

The other two ingredients in the tea are water and a little bit of honey for sweetness. It’s quick and easy to make, and will make your little ones (or you) feel better in no time if you are under the weather. Also the recipe I am showing you is just a base for the tea, you can feel free to add anything else you may love like cinnamon, or other anti inflammatory foods like peppermint … The combinations are endless!

Esse chá minha mãe fazia para mim quando tinha qualquer sinal de gripe agora eu faço para minhas crianças nesse tempo de frio para prevenir gripes ou resfriados! A base do chá e mel, gengibre, turmeric, limão amarelo e água. Aí você pode adicionar qualquer tipo de anti-inflamatório que quiser como canela e outras ervas!

Ingredients:

3 tbsp of honey
1 tbsp of sliced ginger
Juice from 1 lemon
2 slices of turmeric
4 cups of water

Directions:

Start by placing your honey in a medium saucepan over low heat and stir. You are going to want to cook it until it becomes dark in color. While that starts to cook, add in your chopped ginger. Next, squeeze your lemons and leave them in the pot, and add in the two sliced of turmeric. Finally, pour in your water and let the tea simmer in the pot for a few minutes and then serve!

Enjoy and stay healthy!
