Olive Oil Herb Cubes

Discover the story
Do you have an abundance of herbs from your summer garden? This is for you!

As summer draws to a close, you may find yourself with an abundance of fresh herbs from your garden or pots. What better way to preserve these vibrant flavors than making Olive Oil Herb Cubes? This simple tip, shared with us by WOT community member @kippmack, allows you to enjoy the essence of summer all year round.

If you haven’t made herb cubes before, trust us—this is one kitchen hack you won’t want to miss. For best results, use silicone trays like the one pictured below; they make popping out the perfectly preserved herb cubes a breeze.

Olive Oil Herb Cubes

Ingredients

  • Olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, basil, sage, etc)

Instructions

  • Wash, pat dry, and prepare your herbs by stripping the leaves from the stems.
  • Chop your herbs into desired size pieces.
  • Fill each ice cube about halfway with the chopped herbs.
  • Pour the olive oil into each cube to cover the herbs. Gently press the herbs down into the olive oil so they are submerged.
  • Place in the freezer for 4 hours or overnight.
  • Remove the cubes and store them in the freezer in an airtight container for up to six months.
  • When you're ready for some summer fresh herbs added to your recipes, just drop a cube or two into your recipe or pan, and you’re ready to go.
