Pre-Shampoo Winter Scalp Mask

Discover the story
Nourish your scalp with this homemade mask!

If you’re dealing with an itchy, irritated, or oily scalp due to the winter weather or just want to re-energize your scalp, a revitalizing scalp mask treatment can work wonders! Today, we are sharing this Pre-Shampoo Winter Scalp Mask from Romina Manenti, Founder & Creator of MAY11

The combination of ingredients in this mask offer a range of benefits. Yogurt provides a soothing and cooling sensation, creating a refreshing experience. Aloe vera, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, calms and nourishes the scalp. Rosemary Essential Oil also re-energizes the scalp and promotes healthy hair growth.

Pre-Shampoo Winter Scalp Mask

Ingredients

  • 5 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp aloe vera gel
  • 2 drops rosemary essential oil

Instructions

  • Mix the yogurt in a bowl with a whisk to create a creamy consistency.
  • Add the aloe vera gel and the rosemary essential oil.
  • Whisk again to ensure all the ingredients mix evenly.
How To Apply The Mask
  • Brush your hair with a scalp brush, like this one from MAY11. Then apply the mask to your scalp, creating five sections from front to nape and five from side to side.
  • Massage for 3 minutes.
  • Take a hair towel and soak it in hot water. Squeeze it, let it cool a bit, and wrap your hair. The warm towel will help soften your scalp’s skin and help purge the impurities.
  • Repeat three times.
  • Leave the mask on for 30-60 minutes, rinse thoroughly, and proceed with a shampoo.

WOT else do you need to know?

Can I use vegan yogurt?
As do dairy-based yogurts, all vegan yogurts contain probiotic bacteria, but the species and amounts vary tremendously.

Why do you use yogurt?
1. Helps to Eliminate Dandruff: Yogurt has anti-fungal properties. Thus, it helps to deep clean the scalp of any excess oil or dirt that may be causing dandruff in the first place. This removes dandruff while ensuring your scalp is clean and healthy.
2. Soothes the Scalp: Often, dandruff can lead to an itchy scalp. Sometimes, it becomes so bad that the scalp becomes red, irritated, and inflamed. Using yogurt on the scalp will ensure the aggravated scalp is soothed, giving you instant relief.
3. Balances the pH: The pH of your scalp must be maintained at an optimum level. If the pH level starts to fluctuate inconsistently, the scalp’s sebum production goes haywire. This results in greasy, dull hair and, eventually, dandruff. Yogurt helps to regulate these pH levels in the scalp.

Can You Use Essential Oils Other Than Rosemary?
The best oil to reenergize the scalp is rosemary, but if you don’t have it, you can replace it with others, such as peppermint, clary sage, or thyme.

Enjoy!
